I mean really, who isn't?
Anonymous said: fucking hell, you sound like Frankie. I just have one point to make......just because Zankie shippers are loud on Twitter & Tumblr doesnt make you the largest fan base. that is taken by Donny's fans. 5+million votes in the biggest voting of the show's history. I rest my case.
Let’s take this from the logical approach shall we? I mentioned the power base aka the target market. Now you may fall into that primary demographic, just as many Zankie shippers fall outside of the claims of “12 year old fans”, but the fact of the matter is (to the network) people of a certain age & disposable income are the target market. Donny (whom many Zankie fans love) is perfectly lovely, but his metrics have his market scaled older, aka the NCIS viewing crowd.
Is that bad? No.
Is that what the advertising agencies want to pander to? No.
Does that matter to Networks? Yes.
There is a reason you see Pop Culture icons of music & entertainment endorsing everything from Pepsi to Cover Girl, because youth, beauty, and ‘the perception of cool’ sells. In the dog eat dog world of entertainment only one thing really matters, MONEY. Who do you think the A&R people, demographics analysts, social media saturation researchers are going to say has the highest Q score?
The marketers are looking for that Q score because high emotional bonding with a property (aka person/actor/entertainer) means strong viewer involvement and audience attention to the show they are on, which is an important indicator for the quality of the show’s advertising environment. Viewers who then regard the show as a “favorite” have higher awareness of the show’s commercial content.
As Zankie, Zach & Frankie, have tapped into the Millennial market that so many marketers & networks yearn to gain a foothold in. The millennial market stretches from the music crazed fans to the passionate geek sub-cultures, but one thing remains consistent in this group… they spend money. And like I said earlier, that is what it comes down to. (see Amazon’s Ladies Pink Hat, Green Hoodie, Blue City Snapback, Multi-colored Neon hoodie, & Black Sleeveless Vest sales as proof) Lovable as Donny is, he does not instill a craze in his fans which even if you find to be distasteful, I assure you that people positions of power that are making decisions on future entertainment opportunities do not, in fact they are banking on it.
So, before you rest your case perhaps you should do a little more research than listening to one statistic and take a moment to embrace the stripped down logic. We live in a time when a fandom’s influence can make huge changes to the entertainment landscape. From Veronica Mars to One Direction, the fans that are the loudest and most active are being heard because their passion translates into brand loyalty and market influence. (see the aforementioned MONEY statement) You may not care about Social Media or the passion exhibited by a fanbase, but I assure you the people who matter do.
I love how Cleo says the real Big Brother fans aren’t Zankie shippers, but really there are more if us active than in any other fandom. We are the power base, we make things trend, we will be the ones advertisers pander to, the ones networks wish to have tune in to their shows, and the people who will passionately follow their favorites for years to come. We are the Superfans, the stans, that will help open doors for Frankie and Zach through the power of our collective affection. Cleo may speak for “some” Big Brother fans but Zankie transcends just one television show. Zankie is a movement of tolerance, love, and possibility. Unfortunately, there are close minded people who don’t understand that, and I feel sorry that they will never shine bright with the rest of us dinguses.
Must listen to this several times, run it through a voice analysis program and conclusively determine emotional factuality based on verbal inflections and vocal modulations.
Or I could just listen to it and squee every time he says Zach’s name…
